Artist Bio

Khang Do is a digital illustrator based in Toronto, Canada.

He is a queer artist from Vietnam and graduated from OCAD University in 2023.

His works focus on the vast spectrum of human emotions, especially love, and are visually bombastic, usually filled to the brim with fascinating easter eggs and references.

He strives for inclusivity and diversity and puts an emphasis on drawing vastly different looking people in his works. Khang draws inspiration largely from the childhood media he consumed, from Disney princesses to nostalgic online flash games, giving his work a sense of childlike wonder and wholesome magic.

Beside illustration, Khang has an interest in fashion and style, as well as musical theatre. In his free time, he likes to watch video essays, play casual indie games, and go thrifting.

FAQ Ask The Artist

What program do you use to make your art?

It surprises me that this surprises people but everything is done in Adobe Photoshop.

What’s your favorite brush to use?

The one that I use most frequently is the China Marker 2 brush from the Kyle T Webster’s brush pack. Honestly I use a lot of brushes in that pack very often so it’s hard to pick a favorite.

Do you have physical products? Or a store? How can I buy your merch?

I have sold at a few art markets before and plan to table more in the future, but right now I don’t have a store set up just yet. But I for sure will keep you updated once new merch are released!

Do you take commissions?

Not at the moment, no. But I will share as soon as commissions are open again! You can follow me on Instagram @avokhangdos for the newest updates on that!

When did you start drawing digitally?

It’s kinda funny because for the longest time I thought I would never ‘go digital’ and would be content coloring with markers for the rest of my life hahaha can you imagine?...But I actually started drawing digitally in 2020 and switched to digital full time in 2021, and I never looked back.

Where are you from? How do you say your name?

I’m from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. And a weird answer to the second question is that my name is pronounced like the word ‘king’ but you open your mouth more in the vowel part, to make an ‘a’ sound.

Where did you study?

I went to OCAD University in Toronto for my Bachelor’s Degree in Illustration from 2019 to 2023.

How did you find your art style?

Honestly I think I just drew a bunch hehe. I think a huge thing that got me to become more consistent is doing the 30-day challenges (kinda like Inktober but not just using ink and not in October lol) I don’t think art style is something that is ever gonna be fixed though, so to be honest, I don’t think I’ll ever truly find a style and stick with it. I think the art style(s) I use will change and evolve through time and all the different styles I adopt are all “my style” at the end of the day.
